HANGAR BRIEFINGS

Common questions, straight answers.

The questions every collector asks before clearing for takeoff. Answered straight.

Products & Quality

Are these models toys or display collectibles?

Display collectibles, intended for adults 14 and up. Every aircraft is die-cast metal with hand-applied tampo markings and is meant to sit on a shelf — not to be flown around the living room. They're not safety-rated as toys and shouldn't be given to small children.

What scales do you carry?

Most of our hangar is 1:72 scale — the gold standard for military aircraft collecting. Smaller bombers and large aircraft come in 1:144 for practical display reasons. We're expanding into 1:48 and 1:32 in upcoming releases for premium pieces.

Are these pre-assembled or do I need to build them?

Pre-assembled and display-ready. No glue, no decals, no painting required. Every aircraft arrives ready to take its place on your shelf — propeller installed, canopy attached, landing gear deployed (or retracted, depending on the model's pose).

Who makes the aircraft you sell?

We source from established manufacturers in the hobby — primarily Hobby Master, Corgi Aviation Archive, Forces of Valor, and Herpa Wings. Each manufacturer is named on the product page. We do not sell unbranded "manufacturer X" aircraft.

Why do you only sell military aircraft?

Because curating well means narrowing well. We focus on military aviation — from WWI biplanes to modern stealth jets — to deliver depth, accuracy, and historical context that a general aviation store can't.

Ordering & Shipping

How long until my aircraft ships?

In-stock aircraft ship within 48 hours of order placement. Limited editions ship within 5 business days. Pre-orders ship within the window stated on the product page. Engraved display stands add 2–3 business days.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — worldwide. Rates and delivery windows are on our Shipping page. Customers outside the U.S. are responsible for any import duties or VAT charged by their country. EU customers under €150 have VAT collected at checkout via IOSS.

Is shipping really free over $150?

Yes — for orders shipping within the United States. International shipping rates apply for all destinations outside the U.S., regardless of order value.

Can I expedite my order?

U.S. orders can be upgraded to UPS 2-Day at checkout. International expedited shipping is available for select destinations — contact us at crew@ironsquadron.com before ordering if you need an aircraft for a specific date.

Condition, Damage & Returns

What if my aircraft arrives damaged?

We replace it. Free. Email crew@ironsquadron.com within 14 days of delivery with three photos: the aircraft, the shipping box, and the internal packing. We'll ship a replacement within 48 hours of confirmation. Lifetime warranty — even if you find damage 5 years later.

How are aircraft packaged for shipping?

Every aircraft ships double-boxed: the original manufacturer box inside a corrugated outer carton, with foam corner cradles, inflatable air pillows filling every void, and fragile labels on all six sides.

Can I return an aircraft if I change my mind?

Yes — within 30 days of delivery, in original packaging, undisplayed, with all materials intact. Read the full Returns policy. No restocking fees. You cover return shipping unless the return is due to our error.

What can't be returned?

Engraved/personalized stands, Squadron Patches (sewn apparel), aircraft clearly marked "Final Sale," and limited edition / numbered series — once your serial number is allocated, it's yours. (Exception: damaged-in-transit limited editions are still covered by our warranty.)

The Standard & Authenticity

How do I know my aircraft is historically accurate?

Every aircraft passes the Iron Squadron Standard — verified against the historical record for markings, livery, scale, serial numbers, and pilot-specific details. Read The Standard for the full three-checkpoint process. If you ever spot an inaccuracy, email us — we'll investigate, and we'll credit you if you're right.

What's the briefing card I keep hearing about?

Every aircraft ships with a printed historical briefing card — A6 size, two-sided. The front: the aircraft's silhouette, tail number, and squadron emblem. The back: a 150-word story of the pilot, mission, and fate. It's our way of shipping history along with the model.

Do you sell replicas of aircraft from every country in WWII?

Yes — Allied, Axis, and neutral powers, where historically significant aircraft exist. We honor the engineers, pilots, and crews of every air force represented. We do not glorify any political regime. Aircraft with politically sensitive markings (e.g., swastika-marked Bf-109s) cannot be shipped to certain countries by law — we'll let you know at checkout if your destination has restrictions.

Display & Care

Do I need a display stand?

Technically no — most aircraft come with their own simple display base. Practically yes, especially for fighters in flight pose. Our Iron Squadron Display Stands ($24.99) elevate the aircraft, show the underside, and look significantly better than the basic plastic stands. Engraved versions ($39.99) make excellent gifts.

How should I clean and maintain my collection?

Soft microfiber dust cloth, dry, every few weeks. Avoid anything wet — water can damage tampo printing and weathering finishes. For glass display cases, we recommend a fully enclosed acrylic case to keep dust off entirely. (Coming soon to our accessories collection.)

Will the paint fade in sunlight?

Direct sunlight over years will fade tampo printing on any diecast model — Iron Squadron's included. Display your collection away from south-facing windows. If you want a display window seat, consider UV-filtering film for the glass.
